WORKSHOP | YOGA FOR CYCLISTS
LED BY FORMER US NATIONAL CYCLING TEAM MEMBER
AND CINCINNATI NATIVE, LESLEE SCHENK

Cincinnati native, two-time world championship medalist and multi-year national team member Leslee Schenk Trzcinski, brings firsthand experience of Trzcinski, brings firsthand experience of yoga’s benefits to cycling performance, and wants to share her knowledge with athletes of various sports and levels. As a sponsored member of the 7-Eleven cycling team, she followed a routine of stretching, visualization, nutrition and recovery techniques to optimize her racing career. She is now a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200) with a focus in the Iyengar style that puts great emphasis on precision and alignment—ideal for application to bodies on bicycles. She was also a nationally ranked, state record-holding swimmer (Ohio State champion 1980), an accomplished regional triathlon competitor and completed four marathons including New York and Boston. She stays active on the bike around her home in hilly upstate New York, but LOVES to return to her beloved hometown of Cincinnati to ride and visit with family and friends.

As a cyclist, you overtax some muscles and underutilize others. This imbalance
impacts performance, strength and recovery while making you more prone to injury.
This workshop shares yoga poses and other information essential to your cycling
regimen—whether you are at a competitive or recreational level. See direct
application to your on-the-bike position and performance. Explore ways to counterbalance
the effects of a rigid, symmetrical bike on a body that is anything but,
fending off lower back discomfort, shoulder / neck pain and tightened hamstrings.
And, hear about the linkages of yoga and concentration / mental focus, as well as
basic breathing techniques that apply to air intake over the bars whether climbing,
seated and in a tuck position. Don’t miss valuable information about:

BIKE POSTURE DOS + DON’TS – visual aids (photos + Leslee on bike on trainer)
to demonstrate proper form and what impacts it positively and negatively

BIKE FIT – a brief overview; best practices to optimize power and performance.

YOGA POSTURES – ideal to enhance and counter-balance cycling where the
quadriceps, hamstrings, and hips never rest. We will do poses that focus on: tight
hamstrings which pull hips out of alignment; the spine - constantly flexed forward
resulting in muscle pain in the back; shoulder openers for relief and balance.

BREATH CONTROL + FOCUS – listening to, learning and understanding the
breathe off and on the bike; mind/body connection for focus and concentration.
